Atlanta Veterinary Eye Clinic (AVEC) has been a long-term dream of founder, Dr. Gail Powell-Johnson. Growing in Miami, Florida, she has all kinds of pets, including dogs, cats, snakes and even a pet duck. She worked for her local veterinarian, Dr. Jack Knowles, from junior high through her senior year of high school. A prominent leader in Miami, Florida, Dr. Knowles came from a family of veterinarians (father and brother) and owned a small animal practice.
Working in his practice revealed the intensity of the human-animal bond. He provided a nurturing learning environment for people and their pets. Dr. Knowles served as a mentor and demonstrated the importance in a positive interactive relationship with his clients. He was present through Dr. Powell-Johnson's life during college and graduate school. He even attended her wedding years later.
Following veterinary and graduate school, Dr. Powell's mission was to create an environment for bringing animals and people together within a healing environment. She opened her specialty practice within Avondale Veterinary Hospital in 1981, in Avondale Estates, Georgia. Dr. George Sanders (owner of Avondale Veterinary Hospital) welcomed a specialist within his doors, where Dr. Gail Powell-Johnson practiced for seven years.
In 1988, AVEC was relocated down the street to its present location, 33 Avondale Plaza North. Atlanta Veterinary Eye clinic has been an established business within Avondale Estates community for the past 26 years. Thanks Jack and George!
Your eye care team at AVEC is waiting to share the love. Boxers Rule!!!
